“It wasn’t until our clinicals in 2010 that we got to spend time together and get to know one another,” Maryse shares. “We started as friends; I absolutely loved spending time with Mike at the clinic. He was funny, intelligent, and very good at what he did from day one! I found myself assisting him a lot. He always had a crush on me and told his friends I was pretty.”
Swati had a fairytale proposal as Kevin definitely delivered! From the surprise to the location as well as how he asked, it was easy to see he had thought about Swati. He chose to propose to her at Cantigny Park, a place he knew she loved going.
“I HONESTLY THOUGHT SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL 10 AND ASKED MY FRIEND WHO SHE WAS BECAUSE I WANTED TO MARRY HER” KEVIN PATEL
Her sister had her believing she was going to a fashion show there, so of course she dressed up and looked her best. Kevin had a camera and video crew set up and she still did not realize what was happening until it was spelled out in front of her. She said, “I was so shocked, I could not breathe!” He got down on one knee and popped the question! She, of course, said YES. Not to mention, she also received a Louis Vuitton!
Picking out the venue and clothes for each event was fun, according to Swati. “He honestly did give me my Cinderella dream wedding and did what he could to give me what I dreamt about,” Swati said. There were many arguments and differences they had to overcome, but looking back they only recall the fun experience that brought them even closer together.
On the wedding day, they were both very nervous. The wedding was very old fashioned for an Indian wedding, but that was exactly what they wanted.
Their wedding’s concept came from the movie Jodha Akbar. Royal Indian clothing and jewelry as well as décor were filled with pearls, reds, greens and white.
For the wedding farewell, they got to ride off in a horse and carriage as Chinese lanterns were lit and released. It was a very sentimental and romantic touch. The reception came together very nicely with Drury Lane’s beautiful hall and chandeliers and the lit up dance floor. There was a warm “Old English” intimate feel to the room, even with 600 guests.
They were very happy with the ceremony, décor, music and every other aspect of the wedding. Swati was so pleased with everything that she wanted to stay in her outfit and have the party all over again! “I still want to go back and relive every moment,” she said.
