A Romantic Milestone Anniversary and Vow Renewal in Barcelona
Before celebrating a milestone anniversary by hosting a vow renewal in Barcelona, Christina and Richard were married in January 2000. The couple secretly eloped in South Lake Tahoe without their parents knowing, which was an intimate and meaningful celebration with their closest friends who could keep things under wraps.
“It felt cozy, real, and very much centered on us and the life we were already building together,” the couple shares. “One year later, we had our larger wedding celebration in San Jose. This time our parents knew, and family and friends came from all around to celebrate with us. It allowed us to share our commitment in a bigger way and include the people who meant so much to us. At the time, we could not have imagined everything we would experience over the years, but that day laid the foundation for the life and family we have built together. Looking back now, it feels both nostalgic and incredibly meaningful.”

“I remember being struck by how beautiful Christina looked and how deeply happy and certain I felt,” Richard adds. “Even though I had never been married before and had been content as a bachelor with no children, I knew in that moment that she was the person I wanted to spend my life with and that her children were part of the future I was choosing with her.”

“I remember feeling giddy around Richard,” Christina recalls. “Every time we were together, there was a sense of peace. I could be my authentic self, and not once has he ever made me feel less than. I would talk to him for hours about anything and everything. Our wedding day was no different. He sensed my nervousness, and all I had to do was look at him and I immediately felt safe. I got lost in his eyes and his energy, and before I knew it, we were in our own space, giggling together. It was at that moment I knew he was not just home, but my person, my forever partner, my soulmate.”

“I could be my authentic self, and not once has he ever made me feel less than.”

Love and Marriage
Today, Christina and Richard have four adult children—Richard, Nicholas, Alassandra, and Michael—along with four granddaughters, one grandson, and two adult grandchildren. Besides enjoying good food, some of the couple’s favorite things to do together include taking long drives along the coast, hiking, and getting in the car with no real plan and seeing where they end up.
“We love date nights, going to the movies, spending time with close friends, and traveling to other countries,” they say. “Sharing experiences like these is what keeps our connection strong and our relationship fun. Trust, patience, loyalty, and compromise have been essential for us. Over the years, we have learned that a successful marriage is not about perfection but about commitment, understanding, and continuing to grow together. Being able to support each other through both the highs and the lows has made all the difference.”

After 26 years together, the spark in Christina and Richard’s marriage has evolved over time, looking different now than it did at the beginning.
“It comes from staying connected, continuing to grow together, and never taking each other for granted,” the couple states. “We still make time to laugh, share experiences, and support each other’s goals. After all these years, the spark comes from trust, friendship, and choosing each other every day.”

A Romantic Milestone Anniversary and Vow Renewal in Barcelona
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, the couple decided to mark the milestone occasion with a vow renewal in Barcelona. Rather than recreating their original wedding, the vow renewal was about honoring everything they’ve built, experienced, and grown through as a couple.
“Barcelona was one of our first trips out of the country,” they say, “so naturally we knew it was the perfect place to celebrate love, life, and our journey together. Barcelona felt romantic and meaningful and was the perfect place to reflect on our journey and reaffirm our commitment to each other. The atmosphere was elegant and warm, with a focus on celebrating our partnership and the people who have been part of our story.”

“There are so many things I love about Christina,” Richard reflects. “She’s beautiful, strong, and the way she carries herself through life is inspiring. But what really stands out most to me is how perfect she is as my partner. Over 26 years, we’ve grown together through everything, and she has remained my constant. She makes me feel lucky every single day. She’s not just my wife; she’s my soulmate.”
Christina shares the same sentiments, saying, “Half of my life has been with Richard. He not only chose me to be his partner and his wife, but he chose us as a family. Richard came into a ready-made family and chose to build a life with me and our children. The dedication and commitment he has made to us as a family has given me the greatest gift of all. After 26 years together, he still looks at me and makes me feel the way I did when we first met. He’s not just my husband, he’s my soulmate.”

As far as what Christna and Richard would suggest to newlyweds, they advise giving each other grace and making sure they’re on the same team.
“Marriage is not about being perfect or always agreeing,” they share. “It is about growing together and learning how to support each other through every stage of life. Communicate openly, be patient, and never take each other for granted.”
