Lindsey Watson met Nicholas deFabrique, a dentist, when she was hired as his office manager in 2010. Having built a great friendship, they started dating about two years later.
During the summer of 2014, Nick was accompanying Lindsey at her parents’ lake house in Sunset, South Carolina. “It’s a very special place to us,” she explains. “My mom’s birthday is July 3rd and it’s a tradition for us, as well as my siblings and their families, to go celebrate her birthday and the Fourth of July.”
“IT’S A VERY SPECIAL PLACE TO US”
On that particular Independence Day, everyone was enjoying themselves at a neighborhood cookout. After dinner, Nick took her Lindsey for a walk down to the lake, where they sat on a bench for a while and chatted leisurely. “Out of the blue, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” she says. “Of course, I said ‘YES’ and the tears started. We walked back up the hill to the cookout, shared the news with my family, and celebrated with music and fireworks.” Nick’s parents joined in the next day, and the celebration continued.
The couple knew from the start that they wanted an intimate, immediate family wedding. A couple weeks after their engagement, they traveled to the U.S. Virgin Islands to check out some venues, and fell in love with St. John–Caneel Bay, in particular.
Their wedding was set for March, and Mary Bartolucci from Island Style Weddings was hired to assist with the long-distance planning process for their destination wedding. “She was so wonderful from the day we met her, and all of the vendors she recommended for us were amazing,” says the bride.
