    JOHANNA TORRES & BRETT FINGERHUT

November 19, 2016 in Miami, Florida

“Within you, I lose myself. Without you, I find myself wanting to be lost again.” Those were the first words Johanna Torres heard after she turned to find Brett Fingerhut kneeling on one knee. The couple’s engagement weekend in June of 2015 was spent vacationing at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, where they filled their days with sushi and shopping.

Before the proposal, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” started playing on the radio and Johanna began dancing around and singing her own rendition: “If he like it then he better put a ring on it.” Brett simply replied, “Maybe someday, baby.” Unbeknownst to Johanna, Brett had already arranged for a surprise engagement champagne toast on their balcony.

“WITHIN YOU, I LOSE MYSELF. WITHOUT YOU, I FIND MYSELF WANTING TO BE LOST AGAIN.”

Ever since they met, Brett and Johanna couldn’t wait to put their dream wedding together. “It was very important to us to have a location close enough for family and friends to conveniently join us, but also have a venue that felt like we were away in an exotic, distant location,” Johanna explains. “Fisher Island was the perfect choice from the moment we saw it. From its historic glamour, to the most beautiful scenery, we knew this was the place where we wanted to say, ‘I do’.”

When the wedding day arrived, the bride walked down the aisle right before sunset. Blessed with perfect weather and clear skies, the ceremony was romantic yet lighthearted – some “bloopers” being, when the bride forgot to recite a vow and put the groom’s wedding band on the wrong hand.

With Lourdes Milian’s team at the helm, the wedding décor was everything the newlyweds wanted. Their wedding vision included a clean and modern aesthetic, with a bit of glam incorporated. For the reception, a romantic ambiance was achieved with stark white décor and a light purple lighting scheme. Rather than partying in South Beach, the newlyweds succeeded in bringing the feeling of a night club to their guests.

“As the night came to the came to an end, we shared our first dance,” Johanna recalls. “With our friends surrounding us and making confetti snow angels, we looked into each other’s eyes and at the same time said, ‘We did it. We are husband and wife.’”
